Eight billion humans
Tear this planet apart
A frenzy of destruction
Hating each other
Hating other species
Selfishly consuming
All the secret gardens
This world can offer.
Man came out of Africa
Killing as they went
Killing for food
Killing for ‘fun’
On the run from themselves.
In Africa, now, only
Twenty thousand lions remain
with nowhere to hide
the heart of their pride.
Lions defend each other, unlike us
Lions share their food, unlike us
Lions do not waste a morsel, unlike us.
Lions live in harmony with the environment, unlike us.
Lions are hunted, shot, trapped, poisoned, burnt alive
By the killer species — homo sapiens.
The crown of creation.
