LETTER TO MY SON AND DAUGHTERS
Wager all you have in these your life stakes
Take a chance, trust in fortune, ride the wave
It doesn’t matter who, except you, likes you
They can dance on your graves for centuries,
You will not care, you won’t be there.
Trust your instincts, do not fear saying ‘I don’t know’
Take time to notice the world as it is
Remember, when you love, it is forever
Respect the old and the young
Look at how nature orders the world
Nobody has a stake through their heart.
The eternal law is mutability, change.
Never tell the poor that money doesn’t matter
Remind the rich that pride comes before a fall
Preach about camels and needles
There’s no stake in your heart, hearts are joined by choice
Don’t let the world decide what you believe
Go scrumping apples in late September
Blackberrying in the fall.
Worry about your children, as we parents do,
Love them all the way through.
