From 1914 Turks began to implement an agenda of anti-Christian demographic engineering on the Ottoman western coast. The paramilitaries of its newly founded Special Organization expelled some 200,000 Rûm from the Aegean littoral. The genocide of the Rûm, Christians, had begun.
