COVID - 19 PRAGUE

Also known as SARS-CoV-2

Should we now introduce you?

A new virus inhuman-infecting Betacoronavirus

With a genetic proximity to 2 bat-derived SARS-like coronaviruses,

Likely originated in chrysanthemum bats.

Whilst, flat on their backs,

On All Souls and All Saints nights,

Or in the Moravian church where the congregation snuffle and wheeze,

Recalling all those Hussites burnt at the stake,

For believing differently; for carrying contagion.

Fireworks, like blood red poppies,

Explode nebulas of stars,

A tang of smoke

Clings to our clothes

Congregates in our throats

As we seek to continue to grow old.

A veneer of dusty history sparkles

As mists swirl..... Turks and Mongols

Prussians and Russians coalesce around

Braziers, roasting chestnuts with mufflers and gloves,

Remembering plagues of the past.

Hands into which we sneeze as the wind off the Danube.

Spreads through the freezing air,

Faces flare minutely, lighted cigarette smoke

Mingles in invisible droplets of mucus,

While silent going away parties

Fill the corners of empty rooms.
